The Current Is Ending/Red Tie Media Is Changing

The Current Podcast, hosted by Jacob Bodnar and Jared Weseman will release its last episode on January 12th, 2012. After six years of production the show is at a high point and is ready to be retired.

Over the last 15 months it has been an honor hosting such a great show and working with Jacob, but as described below, Red TIE media, the show’s production company, is launcing version 2.0 focused solely on Social Media, Social Tech, and Social Marketing on January 15th. Don’t worry, I will continue to host a show with Jacob, it will just be focused on another passion, Technology. The yet-unnamed show will be distributed here as well as at redtie.tv. As far as politics goes,  I  will continue to talk politics on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and my personal blog. You can also expect a yet another re-launch of Politics: Unfiltered very soon.

Here is the announcement of changes at Red Tie Media:

There are changes coming to Red TIE Media.

Big changes.

After much consideration and deliberation, I have decided to take Red TIE Media in a different direction. A direction that I feel will make our content more marketable, more usable, and make the network more relevant.

We will continue to produce quality digital media, however we will shift our content focus. Effective Sunday January 15, 2012 we will exclusively produce social media, social tech, and social marketing content. We will focus on mobile technology, the internet, and how people and businesses are interacting in the new social media landscape.

Obviously our current productions will be impacted by this change. Here is how your favorite show will be effected:

The Current
After six years of production and over 210 episodes, The Current will stop production. This is the show that started it all, and it’s tough to let it go, but now is the time. Jared and I will continue our political commentary on our respective blogs and social media channels. However, the weekly show that has recently morphed into a twice-weekly show, will end. We would like to thank everyone who made The Current a success and helped it last for six years. Special thanks to the original co-host Logan Sparrow and his replacement Jared Weseman. Without the dedicated effort from those two guys The Current would have been history long ago. The final episode of The Current will be released on Thursday January 12, 2012. Good news though, Jared will stay on to host and produce the new flagship social tech and social media show on Red TIE Media.

Wednesday Interruption
Red TIE Media’s most popular show might be leaving the network, but that won’t be enough to stop production. Wednesday Interruption, and the entire cast, will continue on as an independent podcast released through WednesdayInterruption.com. If you’re subscribed through the show’s RSS Feed, no worries, it will stay the same. The last episode of Wednesday Interruption on Red TIE Media will be released Wednesday January 11, 2012.

Screwballs
Again, despite leaving Red TIE Media, Screwballs will continue. Don Higgins will take over complete distribution control of the show and the RSS Feed will not change. Further details on where to obtain the show will be released as its end on Red TIE Media nears. The final episode of Screwballs on Red TIE Media will be released on Monday January 9, 2012.

Some of you may be asking, why the switch? What was wrong? Well, that’s a simple answer, nothing was wrong – all of our shows were healthy and performing well. As a matter of fact The Current had its best month ever in November. However, throughout my seven years creating digital media, I’ve failed to do one thing; narrowcast. Narrowcasting is essentially the idea of appealing to a smaller more narrowly focused audience rather than pleasing everyone.

With Red TIE Media’s current model we’re trying to please everyone, and on a small scale that’s simply not a successful model. I have a personal interest and passion for social media and technology, so when deciding what topic I wanted to hone in on I decided the popularity and interest in social media and technology provided an ideal opportunity to create content about those subjects. This change is not a statement about any of the shows we currently produce, it is simply a change in our business model.

We will release more details in the next week about what exactly our new content is about. What is social media, social tech, and social marketing? I intend on answering those questions shortly. But for now, I wanted to make sure all of our fans and listeners are aware of the change and have the opportunity to share with us their thoughts and suggestions moving forward.

With that said, talk to us! We love to hear from you. If you have comments, concerns, questions, suggestions, nice things, or mean things to say, tell us. You can find us on social media, all accounts listed below.
